Zeppelin presented on ultrasound and bulk solids flowability at the DECHEMA and SPE conference in Germany

At a recent specialist conference on bulk solids handling organized by DECHEMA and the SPE (Solid Process Engineering) in Friedrichshafen, Zeppelin, a key partner in the GIGABAT project, contributed insights into a promising area of applied research: the influence of ultrasound on the flowability of bulk solids.

In a presentation delivered on Thursday, April 3rd, Zeppelin showcased findings from ongoing investigations into how ultrasound can positively impact the handling properties of bulk materials. This work, conducted in the context of the GIGABAT project, has been met with strong interest—particularly due to its relevance for the battery industry.

Flowability is a critical parameter in the processing of fine powders used in battery cell production, and Zeppelin’s research indicates that the targeted application of ultrasound could become a valuable tool in improving material behavior during processing steps, potentially offering new levels of efficiency and control.

Beyond the battery sector, similar challenges and requirements exist in the pharmaceutical industry. Zeppelin’s contribution highlighted this parallel, pointing to the broader potential of ultrasound-based process enhancements in fields where clean handling and high process reliability are essential.

While the results are promising, further research and validation are needed to fully assess the potential for industrial-scale application. Still, this work represents another step forward in GIGABAT’s mission to develop cutting-edge solutions for advanced battery manufacturing.
